I ran into a big problem when I got my 72 SS repainted. They body shop where I got my SS painted suggested the 2 stage clear coat method for UV protection purposes and I selected the original 65 color code (orange flame). Before painting the car he gave me a sample of paint and I swabbed it on a small section of the car and let it dry. The color looked fine, an orange red color.
The shop painted the car and 2 days later I looked at the car and the color looks like ICED TEA not the color I was looking for. The guy at the shop said the car is not done yet. the car has been at the shop for a week and i don't want to go back to pick it up. does anyone know what could have went wrong?
Thanks
Joe

Depends on what stage you saw the car. A wet base coat is a pretty good indication of the true color. Once it has "flashed" and before the clear has been sprayed on it, it will be very dull and not look like the true color at all. A bright orange could very well look like iced tea without the clear.

Did the shop use the same formula to shoot the car as was used in the test panel? Too many variables to make you feel good/bad at this stage. Wait until they say it is finished, then make your decision.

I agree with vettefella..Wait till they
are finished..uncleared base looks terrible
until its cleared..After the clear is applied it will totally change the color.
Also don't go down there after the shining clear is appied because they'll be sanding
it down a day or too later and it will look
crappy too until its buffed. Make your decision when they say its ready.. http://www.chevelles.com/forum/smile.gif
