my electric choke for a 1985 quadrajet (305c.i.) doesnt seem to work,i've tried everything to no avail.right now i'm just running it adjusted wide open so it won't slam shut while driving and stall my engine..i've checked the fuse and will check the wiring for a short or disconnection, but i've got a feeling it is just not functional, any suggestions about replacing it? will i have to buy a replacement from my local GM dealer or is there a cheaper alternative? thanks.oh yeah, there is a wire or two that connects to the top of the carb(a "feedback carb?") i disconnected the ESC and bypassed it because it was shot and causing erratic behavior, will that affect the choke?

I bought one from the local parts place.

great!how much $$$? it doesnt appear to be a very hi-tech piece, maybe i can snag one at Advance.considering there arent many components it seems odd for one to just die.has anyone here ever experienced a complete failure of their electric choke? just curious.

make sure there's no gasket under the choke, no ground that way. there should have battery voltage in the wire when the key is on, engine running. double check that as it is wired through an oil pressure sensor, sometimes there's problems there.

That would explain why my 85 was on all the time. Missing oil switch.
IIRC, it was around $15 for a choke coil at autozone.
My ground wire was a seperate wire I ran somewhere else just to make sure.
