I apologize if I'm re-hashing an old topic, but I did a search and couldn't find the answer to my question, which is --

I have a small area of light surface rust in the trunk under where the trunk mat was sitting. Does anyone have a suggestion about the best way to remove the rust, and secondly, are there any recommendations on what type/brand of spatter paint to use once the rust is removed? Currently the spatter paint is a light gray color as opposed to some Chevelles I've seen with a darker grey.

Thanks in advance for any help.

I used a wire brush to remove the light oxidation in my trunk then hit it with some POR15. I top coated with POR Tie-coat primer, and plan to use the speckle paint when I am ready to finish painting the car.

This way the rust shouldn't ever come back.

Oh, I had 1 spot that was greasy (where the spare was), that I did not degrease, that ended up fish-eyed after using POR. I think if I would have used the "Marine Clean Degreaser" from POR it would have not fish-eyed.

You mighta also wanna find where the water came from if it's not just condensation. The corners of the rear glass are problem areas for rust out.
