: Torque converters the same for TH350 and TH400 trans??

Can someone tell me if the torque converter from a TH350 trans would work with a TH400 trans? I have a very slightly used Daaco torque converter that was bought for our 71 Buick GS convert that had the TH350 trans with the GS 350 motor. The guy that rebuilt the engine gave me some wrong info and was supposed to match up the cam with the torque converter and the car handled terribly so we reinstalled the stock torque converter back into our GS. Now we have this fairly new torque converter laying around that is back in it original box with maybe a month worth of time being mounted in the car. IF it has 250 miles on it, it is alot. I have a potential buyer for the torque converter if it will fit a TH400 tranny.

If anyone has any info, it would be greatly appreciated so I can get this out of my garage.

thanks,

Brian

PS- Happy holidays to everyone here on the Team Chevelle board.

Bill, I think you misunderstood the question. The torque converter does not have any splines on it. My question was will a torque converter that is from a TH350 trans fit into a TH400 and work with no problems?

I think Bill means the splines that are inside the converter which mate with the input shaft of the trans. You can't see them unless you look down inside the snout of the converter. Yes they are the same and the converter will work on a TH400.

:clonk: Thank you Von. Bill I apologise, I was thinking you were talking about the splines on the tailshaft. I totally forgot about the splines inside the torque converter. The only thing that came to mind on the torque converter for me was the notches on the shaft for the pump part. I guess too many brain cells have been damaged from painting too many parts for the elky. Oh well, whats a couple more.

Thanks for the info everyone and have a safe and happy holiday.

Brian

I think the bolt pattern is different from the TH350 and the TH400. Alot of flex plates are dual drilled so it should`nt be a problem. Other than that they are the same as others have stated.
