: Best Interest For Purchase: Heads vs. MIG Welder?
malibu man Dec 19th, 05, 10:28 PM What do you think my best interest for a purchase is? I could use both. With the amount of rust my car has, probably could use the welder worst. I'd like to get both, but one has to come before the other.
Any opinions?
1970SS396&1967 Dec 19th, 05, 11:34 PM Go for the heads.More HP is always better and it will be a faster, less labor intensive improvement.Body work is a PITA!!!
Davec43 Dec 19th, 05, 11:35 PM I'd go with the welder since its winter and you probably won't be driving your car all that much.
Hi-po SS 454 Dec 20th, 05, 12:43 AM The Mig Welder !!! Lincoln or Miller
malibu man Dec 20th, 05, 1:41 AM Oh, forgot to add, the heads are off the car right now and the car is in the corner of the shop. Their is a sale that probably ends the end of the month on the heads too. Just makes the decision tougher. Well, if I don't end up with enough $$$ for the heads, that will make the decision easier.
Yeah, by the time that I need to run the car, I should have some money for the topend of the engine. I know body work is a PITA, but it just has to be done at some point in time. I don't know if i'm skilled enough to do the 1/4's yet, but maybe I can fix the floor pans or the cowl area.
I've got a set of heads picked out. Can anyone recommend a welder that will work for anything on a vehicle? I've got an arc welder for the heavy duty stuff.
Thanks
Randy Mosier Dec 20th, 05, 8:24 PM I can't advise you on this one. The only person who can establish your priorities is you. But if you can't decide, flip a coin.
chev-hell Dec 20th, 05, 9:53 PM buy the welder, learn to weld (it's freeking fun i bought one myself this year) do your welding, SELL the welder and buy your heads :)
malibu man Dec 20th, 05, 10:11 PM I think that's what i'll do. Flipped a coin just for the heck of it, and Washington says that he loves welding, and I should too. :D
Now to find a reasonable store.
Chris R Dec 20th, 05, 11:22 PM We have a nice welding supply place up here in the Mpls area but for the life of me, I cant remember the name of the place. I think its called Twin City Oxygen but I could be wrong. Dave Sietz is the one thats familiar with the place im talking about.
Motorhead62 Dec 20th, 05, 11:22 PM Buy the heads, borrow the welder! :D

LOL I wouldn't be that lucky! :)
Thanks Chris. Any way of getting a hold of him? I'm not a member to the state club, so I can't access him through there.
