due to this being my first project car, I have convinced myself to go with white base and blue stripes. I've been told that the white is forgiving to less than perfect body work. Plus I think it would look good with my blue interior.
Is their white metallic/pearl??
Or would I just be better off going with the white paint code for a 71??

Yes its true that white hides body flaws, but remember it shows paint flaws like dirt.
You can make any color into a pearl color. The pearl is a colored clear coat that goes on right after the base coat but needs to be topcoated agin with clear. The more coats of pearl you apply the darker the color gets.
There are several factory pearl whites out there. Go to your paint supply and ask to see the color books that way you can see some of the different pearl whites.

House of Kolor make a real pretty pearl called "snow white pearl".
The stipes on my 72 are in "silver white pearl" which is also by house of kolor.
check out the link below. All of the House of Kolor Pearls are metallic. They use synthetic pearl flakes in place of the metallic. It differs from adding pearl to regular paint in the way the finished job looks. When you add pearl to existing paintor clear, it gives somewhat of a pastel look. When there are pearl flakes in the paint, the finish looks sharper and more defined almost like a candy.

The original color of my 72 is code 11 artic white. I personally would never paint my car that color. Pearls give so much depth. Go to the paint supply and look at the chips(check out the "HOUSE OF KOLOR" paint chip book) and pick the color YOU like the best. (a valuable lesson I learned from this site)

CHris, you are jumping from the white color because you say "this being my first project car" and "forgiving to less than perfect body work" to pearl paint. This is quite a leap. Pearl is hard to apply by many experianced painters. I say skip the pearl and stick to the basics.

I'd agree with the white being a "forgiving" paint for a first-timer, but as stated above the pearls will add a whole new aspect to application, not to mention difficulty in matching later if necesssary.

Thats another reason why it is better to paint with pearl already mixed in..If you buy a mercedes or nissan pearl or house of kolor pearl white, you will be able to match the exact color later if needed. it is all pre mixed. all you have to do is reduce and spray it.
