Whats ok to use on decals and won't damage paint? a friend of mine got a 71 Nova paints in good shape but it has a few decals on it he wants to remove and not sure what will take em off and not mess up the paint. Thanks :D

If they're peel and stick type, a product called Oops is good. Found in the paint dept at hardware store. Just test it on the paint where it doesn't show. If its OK, then soak the sticker, comes right off. Someone else will have to respond to the old water application type decals.

They look like the peel and stick kind (vinyl) kind. I'll tell him about oops thanks.

I just used a heat gun to remove the stickers of a new set of KYB shocks. It might soften the glue under the stickers. Then I used mineral spirits. And WD 40 will usally disolve glue without damage once the stickers are off. Some options to think about. Good luck

I have found a hair dryer works best. Heat the decal to soften the glue and peel off. Then use the products mentioned above to remove the residual glue.

Ditto on the hair dryer. I've used it in the past to take factory Trans Am decals off of a rear spoiler. It was so easy it's ridiculous.

Be very careful if you use a heat gun. It softens the paint along with the decal. If your not very very careful you can mess up the paint while trying to remove the decal. Trust me I know about this. graemlins/clonk.gif You may also have decal ghost’s if the decals have been in place for any amount of time. The paint under the decals may not have faded along with the paint that was unprotected.

Good luck,
Bubba

3M makes a decal and sticker remover that works very good. I think it's mostly mineral spirits with a little something else added. The 3M stuff can be found at any good automotive paint supply store.
