I'm in the process of building a 70 SS Chevelle with a cowl induction hood. Question I have is whether I can use a slightly taller air filter than the standard 14" x 3" tall filter element. Can I go with a 4" tall element for more filtering area? What's the tallest filter that will fit under the ci hood? Or am I stuck with the standard 3" tall filter?

Yes, you can step up to the taller filter. I have one on my 70 with no interference.

I've used a 5" before also, fits up in the cowl area.

Tom,
How tall of a filter did you use?

The filter that I buy for my 70 with CI hood is a 14x4. It fits and clears perfect and this is a standard filter element available at all auto parts stores (Auto Zone, NAPA, O'Reillys, etc). The stock filter is a 14x3.
I've never tried a 14x5.
