The roof on my '83 Malibu wagon is starting to rust in large areas. This is going to be a grudge race vehicle for the next several years. It has the original paint and doesn't look perfect which helps the sleeper image. It stays outside and will continue to do so. I just want to get rid of the brown rust areas on the top which really look bad against the faded blue paint. Do I sand it down to bare metal & then treat it with something ? If so what do I treat it with ? I have 0 experience with bodywork/paint. I need to be able to find what I need in the local Atlanta metro area. I plan to sand it down using an air powered sander. Do I do anything to kill any remaining rust before the primer ? I hate to, but whatever I use will have to come out of a spray can. Any advice/suggestions will be greatly appreciated ! Thanks.
