My '71 has been in primer for a few months and has been exposed to the elements also. How should i prepare it for painting ( should I just start sanding and if so what grit)?

Definitely primer is not intended by the manufacturer to be a protective coating for all weather storage. That being said, it should be part of your plan to cleanse the car thoroughly and sand the stuff you have and shoot a fresh coat that will work properly with the color coat.

Josh, wetsand with 400 grit wet-or-dry.
