Does anyone know what colors these caps came in? All I've been able to find in on the Web and catalogs are blue or red. I saw a picture of a 72 SS with grey bowtie caps and would much rather have that color.

I bought a new set of OEM caps for my 72 SS wheels from the local Chevrolet dealer a few years ago. They didn't offer me a choice of color and I didn't ask. I'm pretty sure they are gray but I can't remember the bowtie color if any. I'll check tomorrow!

I've got a couple of new sets here, part #3989479. I bought them years ago at the GM parts counter. They are blue with a silver bowtie. The original ones had a raised embossed bowtie, and the replacements GM sold are a flat decal.

I bought my set in 2002 and the part number was also GM3989479. The blue isn’t vivid, looks like gray blue in certain light situations.

Thanks for the replies everyone but I guess I need to re-phrase my question. What were the colors available? Blue with Grey bow tie, Red with black bowtie etc? I can't believe blue or red would be the only ones offered. Couldn't you get an orange 72 ss with black stripes? If so, the red or blue caps wouldn't have looked all that good on that car.

I was only offered one cap color for 71-72 Chevelles from GM parts. I’ve been under the impression this is the correct and only color offered for Chevelles.

Maybe GM offered other colors for the Camaro or El Camino but you would have to watch the logo.

Could the other colors possibly be the owner’s handy work or stylish reproductions?

I know this doesn't answer your question on what's available but I don't know. I was looking for the correct cap/color when I bought mine and figured GM would know.

I bet you're right, blue is the original color especially after looking at yours. It's not too blue and looks good with the grey rims. I wonder if the red is for another year or model? Thanks for the replies.
