Am wondering what you other pro's out there are doing as in sanding the clear prior to buffing?
Am having some minor problems with the new "Super productive" clears and am wondering if anyone else is experiencing the same thing with other brands?
The problem am having is that after wetsanding with 2000 grit wet on a block or even dry on da, am still getting small minor sand scratches showing back up after buffing.
I only have this problem on the fast clears, have it with PPG's DC3000(1.5hr to buff air dried), DCU2082 and some Dupont clears that are equivalent to those as in speed.
I dont get any problems what so ever with the slower drying glamour type of clears like PPG's 2021, 2042 or 2055 or S-W's 630 and 635. I think these clears dont get as hard as the Super Fast clears, there for they sand and buff easier.
What I normally do is wetsand with 1200 in one direction then move up to 2000 go in the other direction, then buff. As for my buffing supplies am now using meguiers(sp?) compounds rather then 3M. I use Diamond Cut 2.0 on a white 3M foam pad then switch to Dual Action cleaner on a black 3m foam and sometimes use a ultrafine da to apply speedglaze.
Just recently I tried using a da sander with 1200, 1500 and then 2000 thinking that the small rotating orbit would solve the problem. Using the da has lessed the amount of scratches seen in the clear but not the answer.
Last friday I got my hands on some 3M trizact da paper with a grit of 3000. I started using the 3000 paper as my final step and it seems to be the answer.
But its an extra step that I would like to avoid cus I aint making no money buffing.
What the hell are you guys using on these fast clears? What compounds are ya using? Should I use a wool pad for my intial buffing rather then the white foam pad? Or am I stuck using that 3000 grit paper as a finisher?...Eric
