I'm pulled my headers and plan on putting back on a stock exhaust on my 1969 chevelle, with a BB in it. (As a misc note, the current Exhaust setup has been taken by my brother, so it's long gone). I remember having a Heat Riser valve (Manifold heat control) on one of the sides. I think it was the passengers side, but can't remember for sure. Anyway, I would like to get a replacement section for this, that doesn't have the internal flapper and ext spring. I remember seeing that someone makes these, anyone remember who sells them or where I could get one?
Thanks,
Fred.
Looking for that original look? I'm not sure if they make that part, but you could remove the flapper & weld up the flapper shaft holes. I just removed the heat riser and ran a new exhaust pipe from the exhaust manifold to the muffler. Dave

I think Ground up has just the spacer.

I got my heat riser block minus the flapper valve inside for better flow from yearone for approx $50.
But if you live in a cold climate and like to run the car on cold days i would not recommend the open heatriser for a mild motor setup as the flapper will greatly aid warmup with little/minimal perf loss.
Also, just a thought, did you ever think abut getting your stock ex manifolds extrude honed for a few more HP over the stock?
Check out the extrude hone web site for details.

Dave,
When you just left the heat riser out, did the exhaust look normal, or was one pipe up higher?
Eddie,
Thanks, Ground Up does the spacer, and that's just what I was looking for.
Scott,
My High RPM days in the 69 Chevelle are all but gone, so I'm not really worried about getting that extra HP. The times I take it above 5K anymore, is getting very seldom. On the other hand, I am looking for a Project car for just that.
Thanks,
Fred.

Just a heads up!
It may not pass a visual if the Inspector is sharp!
I would buy a new one and carefully remove the butterfly and leave everything else on it alone! MAke sure the spring works free too!
And I have before on an old one before I finally said heck with it a year or two later and chopped the shaft out and had my Blacksmith Buddy braze the holes closed before visuals were done in our area.

Thanks PDQ,
Now if I can just convince the guy, that early 69's didn't have smog pumps, I'll be all set.

Don't worry New York does a safety inspection only on older cars. Besides I have headers on my Biscayne and I never have a problem.
