I've been really thinking about this for the last couple of weeks, now that jr football season is over, it's time to get back to the Chevelle. So far I've replaced the driver wheel well's, 1/4 panel, deck filler panel and tail panel, held in place with a bunch of sheet metal screws to check for alignment. Also installed a one-piece floor, which is fully welded in. Everything look's good, ready to weld/glue in place. I also need to replace the passenger 1/4 and wheel wells. Been thinking that it would be a good idea to temp all the pass. side sheetmetal in place so that I can check all the gap's on the trunk lid and bumper prior to welding it all together. The real problem being that the previous 1/4's were in such sad shape that I'm not sure that using the existing pass. 1/4 to base the placement of the driver side is the way to go. I also had to "hack" some of the pass. side off to get the new tail panel in place to set the new one in.
I've read where it is not reccomended to remove both 1/4's at the same time, to keep the body from moving. The car is still on the frame, once the 1/4's are welded in, I'm going to remove it, clean it, and LINE-X the underside.
I need some help here, as I really don't believe the body can move too much with the driver's 1/4 holding it in place. It just seem's prudent too me to get everything lined up before I start welding it all together.
Anybody ever do this, would really appreciate some input, Dave.
