I have searched the faq's but could not find how the long trim pieces to the bedside are secured? I am wanting to strip down for new paint and have new replacements but they offer no clues.

On my 70 El Camion SS 396, they are held in by a olive drap spring clip. You need to kinda push down and push inward to the bed to get the one side popped out of the clip then the opposite side should come out with no problem. Just be very gentle as they do not repro them to my knowledge. I can't see the 68's being that different than the 70s.

I removed mine same as Brian. Since then I've heard that if you remove the rear inside bed access panels, remove the 3 (?) nuts holding the corner trim in place, remove the rear corner trim, then you can slide the long pieces off. I don't know for certain that this will work, but if it does let us all know.

Rick,

Only problem with that is the rear corner pot metal piece goes under the long side moldings. You probably could slide it under if it wasnt for that stud that gets mounted into the body on that corner piece. I'd still feel safer popping off the side molding and then clipping it back on.
