Found on the '72 custome Elky and other years previous, I'm looking for any help / tips for removing the trim on the door window frame without causing damage to either the trim of the frame.

It seems like this trim is tucked under the vent window rubber seal and hung by a lip around the outside edge.

Any tips ??

Also, I heard that oven cleaner would strip the anodizing off of these parts and the aluminum can then be polished, any truth to this ??

Thank for your help

Use an old style can/bottle opener. Wrap it good with black electrical tape to protect the trim from scratches. Start at one end and slowly pry the trim over the lip, don't try to get it completely off at the first point. Work along the edge and it will come right off.

The oven cleaner will strip the anodized coating, best done in the shade with cool metal. Reapply onlt to areas that don't come clean on the first applications. It will etch the metal, so polishing is then required.

I chose not to reuse my on my 65, and think it looks better with them off.
