I wanted to remove the gas tank tonight, however I ran into a problem. I drained all the gas out and then remove the two smaller strap screws from the back of the tank. When I moved to the front of the tank to remove the lines and grounding strap is where I ran into a problem. I can't even see where the 3 different lines go into the tank. Then when I went to losen the two long bolts they don't have much of a head left on them. I don't know if they have rusted off or what but there are only about 3 corners to the bolt head and it is impossible to get a socket to stay on them. Any ideas how I can get these out. I would just cut the tank straps at the back of the car but not sure that is very safe to do.

with my car i had to cut the bolt on one of the straps, the straps are relativly cheap too. Depending on the year 2 of thoes lines may be vents that are about 2" long

I had the same problem on my '72. I was replacing the tank, straps, and all. I took the rear bolts loose as you did, bent the straps out of the way, removed the tank, and took the rest off with a Sawzall and a cut off wheel. As long as your tank is out of the way, you'll be safe. If your front tank strapbolts and clips are in that bad of shape, you'll have to replace them anyway to get the tank back on.
