: Dukes of Hazard - question about engine sound
dwebb210 Dec 9th, 05, 2:24 PM Yes, I know it is a movie.
And yes, I know some people say it sucks.
I happen to love it.
Anyway, I had a question about the General Lee's engine idle in this clip.
(right click, save as) It is in DivX format.
General Lee (http://home.mchsi.com/~mantis/generallee.divx)
It sounds to me like the audio of a Harley superimposed on that of a V8.
If you don't have the DivX viewer, you can download it HERE (http://download.divx.com/divx/DivXPlay.exe)
If it still doesn't play, go to Start, Settings, Control Panel, Display, Settings,
Advanced, Troubleshooting, and set your hardware acceleration to full.
RedSS454 Dec 9th, 05, 3:21 PM Maybe because its a Dodge ;)
But seriously it does sound like a Harley.

Motorhead62 Dec 9th, 05, 3:26 PM Sounds like a Harley to me too!:beers:
MOPARs are very distintive, just like 60 degree Ford smalll blocks. That sound is no MOPAR.
I love soundtracks. Give me the Beach Boys 409 revving!
Derek69SS Dec 9th, 05, 4:09 PM Give me the Beach Boys 409 revving!That was a 348 ;)
72SSAbody Dec 9th, 05, 4:41 PM MOPARs are very distintive, just like 60 degree Ford smalll blocks.
You mean a Yamaha SHO V8 ;)
So if it's a 45* V-twin, then which one is it? Revolution (that's a 60* twin), EVO/Merlin II/XB or a Twin Cam 88?
Joe
1badss396 Dec 9th, 05, 4:57 PM Belive it or not it does almost sound just like my son in laws General Lee car.ALMOST! does kinda have too much of a Harley Sound to it? Must me the mufflers thay have do sound simaller? Here is a picture of his car next to my 69 conv before I disasembled my car. He just sold the car fo some big $$ 2 weeks ago and it was an original 440 #s matching car. Funny part is the entire time he owned the car I never once went for a ride in it, LOL WHY??? I dont know, hehe

John D Dec 9th, 05, 5:38 PM Sounds like a Harley overmixed on top of a V8 with small diameter straight-pipes. Not the 3" end to end sound we've gotten used to.
novaderrik Dec 9th, 05, 6:37 PM the idle sounds liek a Harley with straight pipes, and the revving sounds like an old school 70's era small diameter dual exhaust with short glasspacks.
i know people that have had car that sound like that- well, not the idle so much unless a vacuum hose fell off or something.
BlueSS454 Dec 9th, 05, 6:53 PM Definitley a motorcycle of some sorts, I have a 69 Charger with a healthy 440 in it and that is just an embarrising association of sounds.
RedSS454 Dec 9th, 05, 7:18 PM MOPARs are very distintive...
Kind of like the Chrysler starter.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can, I think I can :D.
Ah ,the MOPAR starter bendix... You just know when they are faking one on TV.
Chris R Dec 9th, 05, 11:14 PM Just like when you see on any given tv show, take your pick. Someone gets into whatever non Ford model and you can clearly tell the sound is not from the actual given vehicle. But clearly a Ford starter, much like the 5.0 liter engines sound when they start. Like a 5.0 Mustang or F-150 sounds like.
When I was a kid, my older brother had a good close friend that always had this laugh that sounded just like a Chrysler starter. Bro used to give him a hard time about that.
