Dan Orgill Dec 7th, 05, 12:12 PM  That is just excellent. And a superb choice of rims and tires, I might add!
Nice ride :) , but I gotta ask: What's with all the brooms? :D

D Stroud Dec 7th, 05, 12:29 PM Great Job!!!!
You give me inspiration that my ole rusty '70 can be a pristine Muscle Car once more.
68L79ELCAMINO Dec 7th, 05, 12:36 PM you just need a little inspiration, a lot of time, and of course $200.00-$300.00 bucks haha
ss396boy Dec 7th, 05, 2:04 PM Where did you get the floor pans,1/4's and bed liner from?
You do all the body work? Looks great.... mine will be there someday
WOw only a year to get it to that stage... i'm jealous. How many hours you putting into it a night?

floor pans goodmark,1/4's dii(dynacorn international) bed panel, elcamino store, not sure of who makes it. no body work for me i'm not that talented. did most everything else though. I did a lot of research on parts. let me know if you need any more info. there were quit a few nights with little sleep. my friends said they forgot what i looked like for a while.
elco68 Dec 7th, 05, 3:06 PM Looks great, pretty much just started on mine.Hope it only takes a year. Not going to rush it.Like the stance to.
'clees Dec 7th, 05, 3:47 PM Inspiring! I have the front clip off, hopefully will get the body off this weekend.
68L79ELCAMINO Dec 7th, 05, 4:03 PM Looks great, pretty much just started on mine.Hope it only takes a year. Not going to rush it.Like the stance to.
thats funny the verdict on the stance is about 50/50. i think i'm going to get the front down a bit.
Keith Tedford Dec 7th, 05, 4:05 PM Can anyone say sleeper? That L79 will lay a beating on a lot of big block cars.....if you take the notion. These were the real sleeper cars of the '60s. I personally saw the results of a grudge race between a '68 L79 Chevelle and a '69 L34 396. Something like 3 car lengths at the end of the quarter. You'll find it worth every bit of dirt in the eye and sweat on the brow.

you can say that again not to mention i had to do it 1. my 1st car "or it is a truck"-that has gotten old over the years 2. it is a somewhat rare combo for an el camino, it also has factory disc brakes
Mike H Dec 7th, 05, 4:22 PM It may have started out bad, but it certainly turned out very nice!
Good luck with it.
68L79ELCAMINO Dec 7th, 05, 4:34 PM thanks mike
rubadub Dec 7th, 05, 5:22 PM It's very satisfying when you get to different stages, very nice work.
Rob
Rich-L79 Dec 7th, 05, 5:46 PM Thanks Rich. Remember when you weren't sure if i even had the car because i didn't want anyone to see it as a heep of rust.
:D
We have a number of members who've never brought a Chevelle to a meeting or event but claim to own one! I kind of feel the same way about the wagon, but at least I have the coupe to play with until it's done. Gonna be a long time yet though....
68L79ELCAMINO Dec 7th, 05, 5:48 PM yeah its funny all of a sudden there is a car and not just a bunch of parts
68L79ELCAMINO Dec 7th, 05, 5:50 PM :D

Georgia69 Dec 8th, 05, 1:48 PM Beautiful. Congratulations!
ss396boy Dec 8th, 05, 2:42 PM Those 1/4's look pretty damn good. I have heard compaints about the DII Dynacorn stuff. How would you rate those 1/4's thickness? I'm still torn on if I should remove the 1/4's on mine or not. I have lots of dents on one side and the right side has some damage too.
I would be doing it mostly myself. I have most tools to do it. Just not sure about forking out $800 for 1/4's.
Was that floor pan a single piece or in sections? You have any pics of the floors or 1/4's before?
Thanks again! You can check out my progress on my sig below too...
richr Dec 8th, 05, 3:14 PM Looks great - there are some nice resto labels that would look great on that car ;) link here

68L79ELCAMINO Dec 8th, 05, 3:25 PM the 1/4's were pretty good but the creases and body lines were not quite like original. i had to replace rear inner and outer wheelhouses and the qtrs didn't match up quite right to those. could be the wheelhouses that weren't right it's hard to say.i would give the qtrs a thumbs up but wouldn't replace them unless absoloutly necessary. in fact i would pay for NOS if i had to do it over, because of the extent of my repairs. the floor pans were sections and worked fine. one thing i learned USE AS MUCH ORIGINAL STUFF AS POSSIBLE. refurbish old parts if possible or find NOS. i have a lot of left over NEW repro parts that just wouldnt work. i do have some pics that i will e-mail you when i find them.
68L79ELCAMINO Dec 13th, 05, 2:48 PM Thanks to everyone and all the compliments. I could not have done it without all the info i received from this site and the people involved-seriously! I hate to admit, it but i think i'm ready to start another project. I must be sick:confused: . I'd like to get my hands on a 1968 L79 2 dr post car. Thanks Again, Scott Hill :)
