I've removed the windshield and rear window and want to clean the black sealant residue from the channels. I tried using lacquer thinner on a rag to clean off the leftover gunk, but it's taking alot of elbow grease to get it off. At this rate, it will take several hours to clean the channels. Is there an easier way? What would a body shop do to clean that area? I want to clean this area before taking the car to the body shop.

If your car is going to the bodyshop for respraying then you can use a zip wheel that attaches to a small hand held grinder this will take of the sealer and paint and anything else it touches .If you are just having a new screen fitted then leave it to the windscreen fitter to do as he feels fit
hope this helps

I use a gasket scraper, takes forever but it gives you the most control.
