I got my first speeding ticket tonight. FIrst one ever in 6 years of driving. and it was NOT in the chevelle. I dont think i would have gotten one if i was driving the velle. I was clocked at 72 in a 60. Just wasnt paying attention. He marked it down to 70 on the ticket. $91 Fine. Oh well, i broke the law, my fault i admit.
Really dont want it on my record, he said something about a diversion. Meaning, if i dont get another for a year, then it will not be sent to my insurance.
Kind of bummed me out. I was actually a designated driver tonight so the cop smelled alcohol from the passenger and was dead-set on busting me for drinking. Even made me do a few tests...pretty humiliating standing on the freeway touching my nose and following the end of a pen. I hadnt even sipped on any alcohol! I was sipping my quad latte' all night!

Bubba,

If you don't want it on your record, sign up for the traffic school right
away, in the county where it happened. Later if they do give you the
"one year no record" thing you can cancel traffic school and get a refund.
That happened to me and I made it the year so am clean now. That traffic school was way up in Port Angeles where I go the ticket so I was happy I didn't have to go. BTW, it will still cost you the money. Like you I was not in the El Camino, got the ticket in the Explorer.

Bubba,

Don't let one ticket get you down, just watch your speed and try to obey the 10% law. Always stay within 10% of the speed limit and you won't get a ticket.
When I was around 24 or 25, I remember Judge Orlando from Geneseo, NY telling me this "If I see you one more time in my court room, your going to Jail, UNDERSTAND". I took his mild mannered hint and backed off on my speeding. Years and years later, guess what, I just got another one, but not in his town. 80 in a 65, but what makes me mad was that I wasn't doing 80, I pulled out between several cars that where speeding. I had the cruise control set for 75, thinking I wouldn't get a ticket at that speed. Maybe I should have followed my own 10% rule and I wouldn't have gotten it in the first place. I had a rental car with out of state plates, so guess who got the ticket.......
It's just a money thing, money for the local towns, and they get it from you.

Fred.

My mantra has been defensive driving and "maintaining traffic flow". If you are "blending in", then your chances of getting snagged are minimal. Typically, it seems those who are making themselves "visible" are the ones getting pulled over.

Man around here, if you do 72 in a 60, chances are you will be rear ended...

The only time I ever recieved a ticket which was actually a citation because the cop didn't see it, it was $1,400 dollars so I invested some time insuring it wouldn't go on my record! I wrote a letter to the judge and read it to him after everyone else left, than I did online traffic school and didn't recieve any other moving violations for 1 year so my record is clean and the insurance company never found out. Man was I surprised when 45min. after I screwed around the cop came to my door step. Anyways you sound like a good driver, hopefully you can invest a little effort and it won't go on your record.

bubba66ss,

i don't know how it works where you live but here we have supervision. since this is your first ticket i would think you would get this fairly easy. how it works here is you plead guilty and ask for supervision. first timers get 30day supervision. if you don't get another moving violation within this 30 day period, the citation is taken off of your record. you still pay the fine though. example: a speeding ticket here is $75 up to 20mph over the limit. $95 for over 20mph over the limit and a class a misdemeanor for 40+(reckless driving) with supervision the fine is double the amount. it's still better than the insurance premiums you will pay when your insurance co. finds out.

i have had 4 speeding tickets and went to jail when i was 17 for drag racing. (all before i became a police officer) i got supervision on all but 1 of the speeding tickets and plead to speeding 30 over on the drag racing. the one i didn't get supervision on was in missuori and i just paid the fine in through the mail.

it's been 18 years since i got a ticket. i still get pulled over in my chevelle from time to time but for some reason i don't get tickets anymore.;)

anyway, call your local states attorney and inquire about getting supervision. it's worth the extra fine $$ to have a clean driving record. just don't get another moving violation within that time frame or both will be on your record.

good luck,

mike

They offer a do-it-yourself legal defense kit. You pay a deposit, it is refunded when you return the kit.

The name of the game is revenue generation, not safety. They will win if you don't fight back.

If you work 2nd shift and get out late at night/early morning, you're more likely to get stopped. With few cars on the road you really stick out.

I'll tell you how they got me last time. When you pass a slow vehicle you are still supposed to stay within the posted limit. So, if you are on a mountain road behind a slow RV going 45 in a 55 you have to wait for a really long straightaway to pass, because if you exceed 55 while in the oncoming traffic lane they will cite you for speeding. I'm no mathematician, but it seems like going just 10mph faster would require a long way to pass someone and not risk a head on.

In my case the guy had pulled into the shoulder to let me go by, and I
sped to get past him so he could get back into the lane before the
shoulder ended, and I got it for 67 in a 55 as the patrolman saw me pull back in front of the RV and had the radar on.

Damn.. Talk about some cheap tickets. My brother was coming around a blind bend, 40ish in a 30, empty industrial lot, (back way to his college apts.) $220 or so. They claimed "45 in a 30". So 15 over.. OUCH.. Happened near UCF in Orlando, Fla..

pretty cool being a designated driver when you got pulled over

anyway

you could try the old trick for court appearence -

wait till about a month before the court date
then reschedue it
Then go to court on the rescheduled date and hope either

The Policer officer didn't get the reschedule notice

Try and reschedule for the Officer's day off... :D

My cousin got nailed for drag racing. He did a burnout and some lady called the cops on him. The cops know him and don't like him. When he went to court the lady (mid 40's soccer mom) said "I saw him clearly and he was in a 1967 Chevelle..." Right... My @$$ she knows what a 67 Chevelle looks like. I told him that he sould have brought pictures of a GTO, 69 Dart, etc and have her ID the 67 Chevelle... When she couldn't I would have cried witness tampering from the police....

Police in my town have nothing better to do. I got pulled over for an "Inspection Violation" on my winter truck... I forgot to make an appointment for an inspection and I just showed up. My mechanic couldn't do it then, but since the emissions was exempt he put the new emissions sticker on. So I have a 12/06 emissions sticker, 12/05 state sticker. Local cop asked why I'm driving a vehicle that "failed inspection..." I politely asked if he had an inspection license... No... Then I told him to write me a ticket because I'd love to hear the judge ream him out... Both stickers are valid. If it failed they scrape the sticker...

The cops know me in my area too. It's kinda funny when you get pulled over infront of your own house. :)
