Hm, all the time ive been here I dont think Ive ever posted in this section. Seems appropriate About 6-8 weeks ago I thought my transmission was slipping. It would shift later than it usually did, RPM's would rev a little higher also, or when cruising at a moderate speed of say 45 and 2K RPM it would jump RPM's from 2k to 2300 ish. The strange thing it seems to do it on all the same turns and roads around here. A couple people say it might be the vaccum modulator on the tranny, its a TH350. I have checked it yet, its all hose no steel line like there should be. I'll check it for fluid tomorrow when I have light. Does this sound like an exhaust or vaccum leak in the engine? I'll be checking everything this weekend... any ideas?

First thing Id do is drive it around to get the vehicle/tranny up to operating temps, put er in gear with the E brake on(so the car dont move) and check the fluid in the tranny with the vehicle running. Im betting its low. From your description, it doesnt sound like a modulator. The mod can cause issues with trans shifting....however, when your cruising at steady speeds and it kinda has that momentary "out of gear" kinda feel where the revs jump a bit and then get back into place.....it sounds more like a fluid or pump issue(At least right now) as opposed to a mod issue, because a mod problem only partially fits the description of your prob.

The hills and turns and such would help explain it cause with the fluid moving around in the pan(due to the terrain)....at times the pump can go dry pretty easily when the fluid level is low, and a low fluid level by itself can cause all of the symptoms you speak of. Checking the fluid level would be the first thing Id be doing....and from there, Id be checking out to find how it got low in the first place(maybe a leaky pan gasket.....cracked cooler line or loose fittings...or a combo of different leaks here and there). Check er out sooner rather than later...Like, next time you drive it cause you dont want what sounds to be simple fix to turn into something worse(like permanant trans damage).

I would add that you might make sure the correct dipstick is being used. If the stick is wrong the fluid level could appear normal but really be low.

Damn! That did cross my mind, it seems so simple when you put it that way, with the hills and all... Im running on duh mode, I did have a little tranny juices in the driveway :( I may have a little leak here. I'll go pick up some fluid and check my levels again, they did look a little shy. I hope its leaking out of the pan or something and easy to get to.

That could do it. Just remember, check it with a warm tranny with the vechicle running and in gear to be sure to get the correct amount in there.
