Thought I would pass along a few things which have worked well for this resto so far...Borrowed and modified this rotisserie from a friend (thanks Colin!). Thought the emergency brake idea was pretty ingenius. Works mint! Can hold car in any position desired.

Good idea. I have been wanting to build a hydrualic vise from brake parts.

What was added is a very good idea. It’s one of those things you don’t think about like how to hold the car in a certain position or to slow it down if it’s not balanced properly.
I wish I had some pictures but years ago I saw a homemade rotisserie that the guy had welded on trailer axles with larger sized tires and added a trailer hitch arm to it to where he could hook up the rotisserie to the back of his tow vehicle and take the car down the street to the sand blaster.
Another neat idea he had put on his was a way to turn the car over once it was on the rotisserie. He welded on an old flywheel to the one end shaft and then took apart a starter to get out the gear that would mesh with the flywheel and then attached the smaller gear to the fixed non-rotating end of the upright tube so that once a long handle was attached to the smaller gear a person could turn the small gear and rotate the large gear and thus turn the car on the rotisserie. He also incorporated a basic locking pawl to where once the car was rotated where he wanted it he could engage the pawl to lock it into position.

You could weld a complete axle up there, then you would have brakes and could rotate the car by turning the driveshaft/pinion shaft. you could cut & fab the axle to make it more compact and lighter.
I saw in a junkyard a guy made a crude chain fall/hoist from an axle. He could pick things up then rotate the load out of the way by turning the pinion.

Chris, those are the Hedmans P/N 68196. They have 1 3/4 primaries. They were a little too close to the lower rear A-arm brackets and had to take a sliver out and re-weld. Other guys have had no problems at all... Other than that they fit good. Lot's of ground clearance.

cheers,
Mike S
