About a year ago I found a 1971 Chevelle SS equipped with a 350 and 4 speed. It is one owner, about 110K miles, no rust holes but some minor quarter panel accident damage. The car is complete but worn out, lots of duct tape. About a hundred footer.
The engine, drive train and electrics are unknown but he says they work. To drive; it would at least need tires, exhaust, windshield and a tune-up plus surprises. To be a really nice driver it would also need paint, chrome, interior and glass.
He wants $10K and I think this is way high. I’m sure part of his value is sentimental.
Any opinion on it’s worth in this condition?

My best estimate would be $6,500 to $8,000. It looks to have the original bias ply spare tire. There's also a lot of originality in this car. Nice dash w/original radio. Original shifter. Non vinyl top.

Looks solid.I'd pay somewhere from $8-10k.

Is that a "Johnny Haas" dealership sticker on the trunk lid ?
If so, this is probably a generally rust-free Denver car.

Haas Chevrolet, Turtle Lake, North Dakota. I don't think the dealership exists anymore.
It is virtually rust free.
When I looked at it a year ago, I thought a fair price would be $3K-5K. I guess being an SS 4 speed and complete is nice.
As of yesterday the price is the same.

Im sure its worth in the 10 grand range. I paid more for my Malibu almost a year ago than what you thought a "fair price" for this fairly clean, all origional SS car was worth a year ago. I dont think your really looking for a "fair price", your looking for a "Good deal".

I figured fixes and improvements would put me close to 15-20K if the initial purchase price was 10K. I guess I didn't think "driver" 71 sb SS's go that high? Prices are going up and I need to adjust my thinking.

Good enough paint to be proud of at a cruise costs around 5K around here WITHOUT much body work.............. show quality a good bit more. Ad an interior package, tires, enough mechanicals/detailing to make it presentable and I think you'll fly past 10K in addition to the purchase price so fast you won't feel the bump, and that ain't countin' your time. If you REALLY like THAT PARTICULAR car, then go for it, but as far as being a great buy, unless smallblock cars are a lot stronger in your area than they are around here I think you could find one already done cheaper than where you'll end up in that one.
