I would like to know how many 1972 chevelles were produced with a vin... starting with 1 c these cars were chevelles, not malibus, malibu vin's start with 1 d . I may be wrong but i got this info out of Danchuck chevelle book. I'm buying one of these cars and was told it's one of 22000 car's and is rare. true or false . thank you , Michael Dion. would like a production web site.

go to www.chevellestuff.com and click on 1972 Chevelle and under generic info click on production numbers....looks like your info is correct.

Just keep in mind that although plain Chevelles were produced in fewer quantities than Malibus, they are not necessarily rare at 22000 units produced. In addition, there is generally less demand for them since they were stripped-down models. The exception is if they were ordered with desirable options such as the Heavy Chevy package.

Lots of sellers try to work the "rare" angle when its not necessarily true.

There was less demand back then and there is still less demand today.
