with my Alumatech radiator, stewart water-pump and a 165* milidon stat, last night on the highway (fans off) the car ran 150*!!!! ouch, guess alum heads help... ya think this will hurt anything?? im about to change to a 180 stat i think

It could cause some sludge to form in the crankcase since the oil isn't getting hot enough to burn off contaminants. It could also affect your gas mileage a bit. An engine running around 180 to 195 does a better job of vaporizing fuel than one that's running on the cold side.

Actually for street driving you should have a 195 degree thermostat. Be aware that your sending unit may not be accurate (check it against another).

At 150 degrees that means that your 165 degree thermostat is never opening - does that make sense?

Actually it means that the 165º is staying open when it shouldn't. Either the guage is inaccurate or the stat is defective. I agree with Randy, a warmer stat would be better. I like 180º stats myself.

i put in a 180 stat today, still takes for ever to warm up and stays around 175 which is better i'd say. the other 165 stat was a new Milidon so it was probably the temp guage off a tad but it's pretty close as i have a sensor that comes on at 185 and it's real close when it shows 180 (my 2nd electric fan uses it) so im good for now
