I am putting new Goodmark fenders on my 70 and I'm having some problems with the L-shaped brackets that run down and under the cowl towards the rocker. When I got my car about 3 inches up on the fender was rotted away along with most of the brackets. One bolt and washer remained on each side, so I measured the distance between them and did my best to fab up some new brackets, but not really knowing what they used to look like I tossed them. I went to an all Chevelle junkyard today and the guy didn't really want to cut them off of a good cowl but did let me measure the dimensions. So they are made and welded on, but I can stick my fingers between the bracket and the lower lip on the fender. When I tighten the bolts It wants to pull it up too high. I don't want to use like 5 shims per bolt but I know it's in the right place! Any thoughts on what I should do?

i have the new fenders on my car that are supposed to fit alot better than the last batch (imagine that). i had to put like 5 shims inside the fender between the fender and the bracket. its the only way i found to work so the fender wouldnt bow. then i got a big washer to put in the outide around the bolt. it seems like a big rig but its all i got for you.

Thanks budruski, At least I know someone else had the same problem, and It's not my measuring. I thought it seemed rigged up too for all the nice work I've done so far, but that seems to be the only way. Thanks again, Jim

I also just installed mine from goodmark and they fit fine with no shims at all on the bottom. Passanger side piller mount I had to use 2, the drivers side piller I hade to actually cut 1/2" out off the mounting bracket to get it closer to the body. All in all, they are sure a lot better then not.
