Can a car be painted with 6.9 cfm @ 90 psi. or 8.9 cfm @ 40 psi with good results?

If you are using a conventional gun that is small, it is very very marginal.

No way Lou, even the Sharpe Platinum needs 8.5 CFM at about 55 or 60 PSI at the gun. I have a feeling you have a 2 or 3 HP compresser with a 20 gallon tank. That is just not enough. Even with my Platinum I have tried and you can paint ONE small panel and not very well at that. You just run out of air plain and simple.
