: How far are you from the nearest road-course?
Derek69SS Dec 2nd, 05, 6:27 PM I'm about 300 miles from Brainerd International Raceway in Brainerd, MN.
I don't know of any that are any closer to me than that, however, I do know of a few SCCA autocross events set up with cones in a parking-lot within an hour of me.
vrooom3440 Dec 2nd, 05, 6:32 PM Shoot I dunno... Thunderhill is probably about a 2 hour drive. Sears Point (or Infineon Raceway as it is now called) is probably about 1.5 hour drive. Laguna Seca might be in the 3-4 range. Buttonwillow, if I guess where it is right, probably in the 4-5 range.
Real road courses have rocks hiding around the corners ;-)
sinned Dec 2nd, 05, 7:37 PM T-hill is 2 hrs, BuRP is 3 hours, Infinieon is 1 hr, Cal Speedway is 4 hrs, Willows is 3.5 hrs, Laguna Seca is 2hrs.
Gokou Dec 2nd, 05, 9:12 PM Same distances as Denny, we're within 45 miles or so of each other.
I've done ridealongs and driven at both Laguna Seca and Sears Point (I refuse to use the new corporate names... LOL) Also rode along down at Riverside (now a housing development, sad, loved the esses!)
Need to hit up the other "local" tracks sooner or later (Thunderhill, Buttonwillow, and Willow Springs.)

BillsCamino Dec 2nd, 05, 10:13 PM Road Atlanta...probably 65 miles NE of here...one local track I've never been to.
Too busy heading to Atlanta Dragway which is only 15 miles further in the same direction! ;)
And then there is Atlanta Motor Speedway which is 50 miles South. Now that's some fun there, I don't care who you are...
Derek69SS Dec 2nd, 05, 10:25 PM Too busy heading to Atlanta Dragway which is only 15 miles further in the same direction! ;)Who let this drag racer in the PT forum? :D :p

Alan Dec 2nd, 05, 10:58 PM I'm 1:45mins from Buttonwillow, 4 1/2 to Thunderhill, 3 to Willow Springs, 3 1/2 to Sears Point, 2 1/2 to Laguna Seca. Only been to Sears Point, but not to run my car. It'd be cool to goto one someday and take my Chevelle around the track.

:D
Nearest here is Heartland Park (when they have the road course set up). And then like Shep, you have Gateway. Which I've done some club track time with the bikes. Fun stuff!

troposcuba Dec 3rd, 05, 6:32 AM VIR (virginia Intl. raceway) is a couple hours from me. funny enough it is right near the town of virgilina. that is on the state line of North Carolina/Virginia. almost feel dirty saying it. been to watch a couple races there, but never on the track.
I don't know of any that are any closer to me than that,
According to Mapquest, B.I.R. is 260 miles from Dexter. The following mileages are from Dexter as well:
- Iowa International Raceway, Marshalltown, IA. 190 miles. 11 turn paved road course. http://jetkarting.net/
- Blackhawk Farms Raceway, South Beloit, IL. 272 miles. 7 turn 1.95 mile paved road course. http://blackhawkfarms.com//bhf/trackmap.php?osCsid=ae2c6ea48029eb8919ba453455f235 41
- Mid-America Motorplex, Pacific Junction, IA. 328 miles. 15 turn paved road course.
A little farther than Brainerd but a much better road course. A bit shorter but MUCH more technically challenging.

By the way, I found these at:

Derek69SS Dec 4th, 05, 11:20 AM Thanks Keith! The one in Marshalltown is very interesting  The company I work for has an office there, so maybe I could work out something work related to go there for :D
1966_L78 Dec 5th, 05, 12:48 PM Denny,
Just curious, what does it take to run at Buttonwillow, ThunderHill, Willow Springs, Sears Point, etc?
Are any open to "general" public? I heard Thunderhill is SCCA, and need to be a member to run there (I think thats right), but just curious on what would be needed to run a car at one of the others (rough cost estimate, not including equipment/lodging, etc, just entry and club dues if any)... Are "open track days" really "open"?
69boo307 Dec 5th, 05, 1:05 PM about 1 1/2 hours from VIR here, 2 1/2 from Carolina Motorsports park.
Or there's the nice and curvy Kelly Rd. just a mile from my house ;)
93Polo Dec 5th, 05, 1:54 PM Road Atlanta...probably 65 miles NE of here...one local track I've never been to.
Too busy heading to Atlanta Dragway which is only 15 miles further in the same direction! ;)

I'm not far from you.
Within a days drive there is Little Dega, Barber in B'ham, AL, Roebling Road near Savannah, VIR, Gainesville FL, and Carolina Motorsports Park. Plenty of the Corvette guys prefer to go to VIR over Road Atlanta as you have much more run off room.
Is the new motorsports park in Valdosta going to have a Road Course?
sinned Dec 5th, 05, 9:11 PM Tony, BuRP runs lots of "performance driving classes", basically an hour in the classroom than open track.
Infinieon, Willows, and T-hill all have lots of Speed Ventures types events.
All the different sanctioning bodies have different rules. Some say body and paint must in good shape (I'm out of those), some must pass a half-ass tech, all require a helmet, battery hold down, good tires, good seat belts (not nesessarily a harness), etc...
airrj Dec 13th, 05, 11:04 AM I am about 3 hours from Watkins Glen. Also, I just found this place. http://www.beaverun.com/track.asp
It looks like there is a fair amount of open track time available. It is about 2 hours from me. I'll have to check it out this summer.
musclecarjohn Dec 13th, 05, 11:27 PM Laguna Seca is about 15 minutes away and I can hear those vintage BB Can-Am cars from my home...No Problem!
I have a great picture taken by the track photo crew of my Chevelle coming just out of the corkscrew...tail a-waging!
Sears Point is about 2-2 1/2 hrs away.
My buddy green flags his '69 Z/28...I think it's around $375-$400 for the wknd and you need roll bars, other safety items, helmet, gloves, lomg pants & sleeves (both driver/passenger) and a few other's I've forgotten.Sometimes it's cheaper depending on who's hosting the party.
quikss Dec 14th, 05, 4:15 PM I'm about 1hour 15 minutes from Road America in Elkhart Lake. Never been on that track yet, but been there to watch plenty.
Jeff
66BBCONV Dec 14th, 05, 9:12 PM I am aboult 40 minutes from Road America. I have had my BB vette on the track twice. A great experience both times.
Bill
