The '67 Chevelle brochure gives a good picture of the black paint treatment that runs across the car between the trim and the trunk weather strip. Many Malibus and SS396 cars get restored without this little bit of extra black.

I used a good spray bomb called Hot Rod black. The parts look good for five years now. I purached this paint at Napa parts store.

Keith,
Just want to make sure I understand you correctly. The black painted area starts at the upper horizontal chrome trim strip and continues up to the trunk weatherstrip. But how far does it continue up each side of the trunk opening? Mine extends until it contacts what appears to be the "Z" shaped edge of each rear quarter panel. Is this correct?
Thanks, Bruce

I just had a close look at my step dads 38k 67 396/375 4spd car awesome car. I just picked up a 67 Chevelle Sat, the black goes up about 3" around the u shaped edges of the trunk seal.

Did you notice whether the paint line went straight across, or did it (as mine does) follow the "Z" shaped edge of the quarter panel? I know this sounds picky, but a friend has a resto in progress, so he needs to get it right. Thanks.

Bruce, I have seen a couple of Atlanta built cars with original paint, and they were painted like this.

Notice how the curved lip in the corner is body color, and the long lip that runs the length of the trunk is black. Other assembly plants could have painted this area differently. Hope this helps.

Exactly, on my step-dads the black goes a little higher around the edge. What's also kinda odd about his is that one fender emblem says "396" and the other came with a "427" emblem. He bought it brand new like that, what's also kinda a cool is that it came with air shocks, and they still hold air http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
