I have bee searching allot of a & g forums for tips on converting my '80 Malibu with a 700r4
from a column shift to a console. I can't seem to get a clear answer on this.

I plan on using a monte ss factory shifter & my existing column to save my
neutral & back up switches. Once I hook up the floor shifter I will then take
my column shift lever off. This should take the detents in my column out of
play. Now I should be able to manually shift into first gear I would think?

I did look into A shifter detent plate from Shiftworks but it works in conjunction
with a shorter trans lever which I think would not be in sync with my stock
column switches.
