I'm trying to restore/repaint my metal round gauge SS housing. The inside is painted a white for reflective purposes and the back side is a natural metal appearance and has some surface rust on it. I have bead blasted both sides and I need to know if I can paint the backside that the printed circuit board attaches to or does that natural metal act as a ground? It would look better painted. Can anybody help me?

Yes you can paint the metal. I use a high temp white in the inside, heat from the lighting will not discolor it, and your choice on the outside. When reassembling make sure the circuit card grounds have good electrical contact. There are five locations on the circuit card that use sheet metal screws to ground the three metal sections to each other and circuits on the card. Also use a star washer between the cluster ground wire ring terminal and the metal back. The dash harness has a black wire with a ring terminal that attaches to the cluster back it is the cluster ground.
