Who likes them who dosent? Having my 70 painted I decided to delte the stripes on mine. To loud for me, looks boss. Makes the car stand out.

If it has a cowl or domed hood it needs the stripes, if not, no stripes....IMO

I agree with stripes on a cowl or domed hood. If I did not have the black stripes on my yellow 72 then I do not think it would look right. Just my 2 pennies worth.

Just my opinion as well, but that hood is one very large piece of metal.
With one solid color it just seems to go on forever; the stripes help break it up some.

For 16 years I have had no stripes on a cowl hood, looks fine. My whole thing at the time was that every Chevelle you see is striped....just wanted to be different, plus the stripes are associated with the SS, which it isn't. Thats the other thing I resisted, putting SS badges anywhere on the car, I'm not really into the tribute thing at all, but that's me.

Now I'm torn whether to stripe it or not, as I will be painting the car again soon.

No one can decide it for you, it's your car, you have to live with it. You will find proponents for both ways.

every thing from S-10s to impala have the 70-72 SS stripes here, so I didn't put them back on my 72 when I did it. I like it better without them.

I like the stripes from pre-April of 1970. They are a little bit narrower than after April. In my opinion, they fit the hood better.

Hmmm, I didn't know that. Interesting. Personally, I plan to stripe my '72 when it comes time.

Because its so common I'm really torn.

If I do it I would do it white, to be different.

Its also why I kinda liked the flamed stripes Foose did that time, because its different, although I don't care for those actual ones...

the problem is that if you vary at all from the ss stripes the guys on this forum will bash you to no end because they are not correct, totally ruling out hte possibility of it being custom/intentional, none of them have tolerance.

Well, even if that is true, can't say I would care enough to change my mind one way or another.

Its nice to be friends with everyone but I don't need anyone's approval for anything. :)

I like the SS stripes. Got the stripe kit. First free weekend with no wind and the stripes are going on. Too much solid color. Looks like a big orange. :)

I decided to keep off the stripes. Car will be a blue color without Vinyl top and stripes. SS without stripes is still an SS like it or not.

SS or not I like the strips. My 70 SS has strips. but the door nob that painted it did it as an after thought. they are not the right with. I have the stencils for the right with. I just have to figure how to get old strips off and repaint it my self. no clear coat on it old school paint style.

Personally, I like the stripes. I have a 71 that is red w/ black stripes on the hood & trunk. My friend has a 72 that is solid yellow, just too brite for me and too much yellow. Even he says it doesn't look as good as he thought it would and plans on adding black stripes soon in the future
