Here's a question for smart guys out there. I've got the opportunity to purchase a 95 cadillac northstar engine complete, has a rod knock going on, so need some work done, but, it's complete. 144xxx miles on it, but with the rod knock work, would also be a re-build. Anyway, as some of you may have guessed, I'm considering purchasing this motor (4.6L & 264 ci) and transplanting it into my 67 chevelle. The motor already has the correct bolt pattern for a 700R4 to make it RWD. It would be a very high tech classic I guess you'd say, I've got an EFI 454 on my engine stand now that is miles away from assembly, (basically, I have the block, heads, crand & EFI unit)and I thought this might be a nice transplant until I get my BB going. What is the TC opinion on this subject, is it worth it to try this transplant, or would it cost more than assembling my 454, or well, what do you guys think? Thanks, Matt

If you do, take pics. I'd find something tall to jump off of with a jagged landing before I'd take on that one.

I would imagine rebuild kits for a northstar V-8 is going to cost you a little more than a kit for the big block. figure a rod knock means redoing the crank, and where did all the metal shavings go? so probably new cam, while your in there toss in a valve job, 32 valves? while it would be a cool swap I think you would be money ahead just finishing the 454 and leaving caddy motor in the caddy.

100% well put.Great idea on paper but unless funds are unlimited,it'd be much cheaper to go the tried and true way to build HP...a 454 BB Chevy!
