Hi. I just picked up a 94 Jeep grand cherokee steering box and I can't find where the alpha code is, can anyone help direct me? All I see are numbers. It seems to be 3 turns lock to lock, is that about right or should it be quicker, like 2.5 turns? Thanks.

The 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee steering gear should have 3.1 turns lock to lock. It would have had the alpha code AL, BT, or PD ink stamped on the aluminum end cover and/or ink stamped on the aluminum side cover. Most likely by now the ink stamp marking is long gone.
If you are sure that the steering gear came out of a 1992 through 1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee, (not a Wrangler or a Cherokee), then you can be sure that you have a 12.7:1 fast ratio steering gear.
It should make a good swap.

You may need to swap the rag joint coupler to match the new gearbox to the old steering column. JimL82 has the info in the tech reference section on the GM part number and the cars that have the correct coupler. I did this swap last week , putting a 96 Caprice gear into my '72 wagon ; I used a coupler from a '79 Olds Omega. Fits just perfectly. Thanks again, JimL82.

I went from manual steering to the grand cherokee P/S gear in my '72 el camino. Besides the pitman arm, it was a bolt in swap, the rag joint is the same on both steering gears.
I bought a reman gearbox (Cardone), part number 27-7570, used in 96-98 Grand Cherokees. Cardone lists a different part number for 1995 and earlier GC's, 27-7525.

Do you know the differences besides just the part numbers? Are the ratios the same
