What is the best way to fill the holes left by emblems, moldings, etc?
I'd like to try it myself rather than spend the money at a body shop.

Any suggestions?

You need to weld the holes shut. If you just apply body filler(bondo) over them they will just came back and show themselves later. Moisture will get to the backside of the bondo and weaken it making it pop out later down the road. It doesnt matter what type of filler you use evercoat, marglass or even metal to metal it will pop out.

So weld them shut. Then use your body filler and smooth out the imperfections. Dont use spot putty...its pretty much a lacquer primer in a tube. That stuff shrinks like a mad man, avoid it PERIOD.

A real sweet trick when welding holes shut is to back the hole with some copper. The weld WILLNOT stick to the copper, and plus it helps weld it up faster and easier. Another added bonus is that the copper will absorb some of the heat which means less warpage. Just go to your local hardware store and buy a foot of copper tubing, cut it into small sizes and then hammer it flat...Eric
