: Sharpe Platinum availability?

Maybe this isn't the right place to ask ... but I'll try.

I'm seeing the Platinum guns REALLY on sale right now at various places .. down to $225 for the complete kit!!

I'm not going to be using a gun until late-Fall, maybe even next Spring ... but I definitely want a Platinum when I get one. Has anyone heard if these are on sale because they're being discontinued or something? I know that Sharpe still maintains the Platinum webpage ... but has removed all hyper-links to it, and replaced with T1 links.

Oh well, I could swing the funds if I had to buy now ... but right now the funds are better spent on buying Chevelle body panels.

What's the scoop?
Thanks, Neal

I asked this question on the Sharpe forum a while ago. Well, not the exact quesion, I asked if they were STILL available, I was told yes. I couldn't even find the page they were on. I think they really want to discontiue them but the gun still has a following so they hang on to it? That's just my take.

How about you ask them the question on the forum? CLICK HERE DR. GUN Forum "Gun Selection" Sharpe spray guns (http://www.sharpe1.com/cgi-bin/ubb/forumdisplay.cgi?action=topics&forum=Gun+Selection&number=1&DaysPrune=45&LastLogin=)

All I know is I would be on top of that and get one before they are not available. Why they would discontinue that gun is beyond me. I am thinking that it is such a "lazy" gun the production painters just don't want it. I know that is what I heard when I was selling them. It allows you to "watch" the paint go on, giving you plenty of time to adjust your spray technique. It atomizes super well, it is a perfect "blend" gun for the production painter because it atomizes so well.

I like the Platinum. smile.gif

I think the "lazy" part of it is probably the biggest reason I'm looking at it over other guns. I've never shot anything before, and I believe to be able to go nice/slow will allow me to concentrate better ... and stay out of trouble.

That and the AWESOME reviews everyone gives the Platinum LVLP gun!!

It's definitely not for a production body shop ... but for the home hobbiest, I really can not find anything close. I'll ask them on Dr. Gun through.

Speaking of though, I may pull the funds together sooner than later (but if I can't) ... Is there anything comparable? I can't find anything close.

Thanks, Neal

By the way, which Sharpe configuration would anyone recommend for a do all prime/base/clear setup ... 2015 or 3013?

Thanks, Neal

Well here's the verdict:

Looks like the gun was obsoleted back in January, and distributors are selling out of them now. So far there is no replacement for the Platinum LVLP ... I ordered mine today.

Thanks, Neal

I don't think the LVLP is 2015 or 3013 it is another number. The LVLP is "Low volume low pressure". I can see that it could be called that being it only needs 7.5 CFM (low volume that is) but I never remember it being called that.
Forget that, I just looked in the catalog and it is called a "Low volume/HVLP" so they must have changed that to LVLP when the "HO" model came out or something.

Anyway, the 2015 is a 1.5 tip with a #2000 air cap. The 3013 is a 1.3 tip with a #3000 air cap. The 3013 is going to atomize MUCH better. Some feel it is even too much. That is the gun I have. I actually had both and use to demo them so at the time I found that the 1.3 tip was what I wanted, even for large jobs. It was actually a 2013 and I had Sharpe send me a 3000 cap. And the 3000 cap was also my preferance. So personally I recommend the 3013.

Those were the good old days when I was a rep. When I had my shop to buy a gun like that was a BIG deal to me, $450.00 or so was a LOT of money.

I got the rep job with S-W and I got a note, "Write a list of the Sharpe products you want" !!!!!! A few days later I came home to find on my door step a box with two Platinums, the test cap, an MPF/HVLP touch up gun, a gun cleaning kit, about $1,500.00 in stuff, for FREE.

Then Devilbiss was "courting" S-W and we had a clinic with a Devilbiss tech rep (I also was fortunate enough to go to a couple clinics with Sharpes REAL "Dr Gun" Hub Forsgren who just recently retired) and he asked what we wanted !!!! (limited to one gun)
A few days later I had a GTI Millinum on my porch with air test cap!!

Yep, that was one of the great parts about that job. smile.gif
