Just a quick question. Need to buff the paint. Never done it. Picked up a variable speed buffer. But what is recommended for materials. I read and reviewed some methods, so I am ok with performing the work, but what are the materials recommeded.

Thanks

Dean...It really depends on why your buffing. Is the paint new, un-sanded / sanded with 1500 or 2000, is it older paint that needs to be brought back or is it real bad ?? There are many different products which should be used for different reasons. There are also 5 or 6 different foam pads for the buffer. Be more specific about what your doing and I think we would be able to help you better...Bill

It was brought up that I needed to provide more information. Absolutely correct. I completed painting the chevelle with a single stage metallic paint. This was done a few months ago. (Time is not on my side) I want to buff it out. Any suggestions on the type of products would be great. I do not know with a single stage paint application if sanding it with the 1200, 1500, then 2000 would be appropriate.

Any help or guidance would be wonderful.

Thanks.

Sanding and buffing a single stage metallic CAN NEVER be done. The reason is you will sand into the metallics affecting the way they lay in the paint. Say on one spot you have more orange peel so you sand more, well in that spot you will sand all the metallics out making it look blotchly...Eric

This last message was what I was afraid of. Can't color sand or buff single stage metallic paint. Thanks for the advice. I need to go back and figure out what I want to do. I was not happy with the metallic paint as it is.

i was reading your post and when i read it was a single stage metallic it made me recall when we, my dad used to own a bodyshop, painted my bros 66 chevy nova. it was dark blue metallic, one of the detailers decided to run the wheel across it...ooh man! it looked like ..., well we had to paint it again. a definate no no.

Well if you can not color sand or buff metallic single stage paint then what can you do with it? I just painted my 68 a med. gray met. single stage. For my first try at it i think it came out pretty good...it's not perfect. There are some areas of orange peel and a few areas where it looks like dust or something got into the paint cause there are little bumps. There has to be something...
