Discoloration should not be a problem on an AirGap since there is no exhaust heat riser passage. I have seen Performers powdercoated orange to look stock, and they showed no problem either, but I don't know if they had the heat riser blocked.

clear powdercoat tends to yellow over time bacause of heat and the elements. I always liked the look of the intake painted to match the engine. It`s cheaper than powdercoating and should hold up fine.

If it costs about the same, I have it powder coated silver, or that almost chrome.

Can't say if those colors tend to yellow or not, but I think that it would look better.

I powdered my performer intake with chrome powder from Columbia coatings along with their hi-gloss clear. Intake has been this way for 2 summers and there is no discoloration. Intake is on a '72 SS.

I had my intake powder coated platinum (silver) and then powder coated clear.
The clear yellowed at the edges where the intake and gaskets meet.
Next time I won't clear and just try the color.
It also stained from a gas leak.

Brian,
I've got some experience with powders.

The silver chrome usually has to have a clear coat over it to maintain its "chrome" like color or it just dulls from the oxidation over time.

Some powders are coming out that are more durable and I'm sure by now someone has developed a powder that doesn't need the clear.

I would check out a DuPont powder rep for more info.

Not to Morph the thread. I was not successful with powder-coating my intake clear and got dis-coloration ( yes it was a none performance head) at the riser area. I glass beaded it clean and had it Jet Hot ceramic coat it... So far so Good ( 2 ) years !

I clear powder coated my performer intake and it looks as good as the I put it on there (3 years ago). Cleans up great. I just had the new manifold coated when new and clean.
