Was thinking of looking into one maybe like these http://www.bestmetalstructures.com/images/single-carport.jpg

or these http://www.diskworks.com/carport/carport_pics.html

With both or just one side enclosed (the othe side would be up near the house as this would be in the driveway)

Anybody have one or any experience with'em?
You can also add ends and doors later on some models....
Thanks

Hey Man! a friend of mine enclosed one of those last year. He had to pour a footing down both sides and hammer drill screw anchors down to keep it from blowing away.I too thought about doing the same thing at my lake house!Down around here they're about $595 for a single car unit.

I have one. I live 40 miles from the coast here in Florida. During the 2004 hurricane season the roof moved alot, but came through OK. I had it enclosed to help with sand and wind. If you dont have it enclosed all its good for is sun protection. The enclosed helps 150%. Car cover also is important.

Also live about 40 miles from he Fla coast, didn't have a direct impact from any hurricanes in 04 or 05 but they do sway little in the wind. I got a Carolina 24' x 26' and you can assemble them in stages. This is what I did to save money, the garage is only a carport now. Got some criticism for begining my restoration by putting up the garage first, but at least the chevelle won't be out in the weather when it's finished.

CHeck local codes for windload. Also, any "temporary" shelter that has a poured foundation is subject to the same rules as a permanent shelter as far as zoning.

Well ,
What I have now is one of those fully enclosed tarp encloseures w/afront zippered door. It has been up for 3 years and served it's purpose, but the wind and sun has taken a toll. The stitching has started to fray and tear. When it snows you have to go out and whack the roof from the inside with a broom stick to make the snow slid off, (royal PITA) I still keep a cover on the car as well.

I figured a metal roofed car port would be much more stable, thus elminating the need for me to clear the snow. (we usally only get a MAX of 12" in any given storm, and that is the high end). The house helps block the wind and snow really good, Plus It is on a concrete driveway and I drilled the concrete and installed anchor bolts to hold it in place.
I would of course do the same with a metal one, and becuse it would be about a foot away from the side of the house I would like to maybe enclose one side and the back as well.
