: SUV Magnet?

My '72 El Camino has been hit while parked 3 times in the last year. The first time the guy in a dually pickup backed into me while at a repair shop, then the mechanic ran out. His insurance paid for it, re-chromed rear bumper, new tailight lense and some fender work. The second was the front middle, appeared to be a SUV with rear spare backed into it. Required new grille, hood work. No note or anything. This last was in a parking garage, and apparently the vehicle opposite me backed out and into my tailgate and bumper. Again no note. I'm getting tired of this, and paying the deductible. The adjuster thinks because it's so low that people in large SUVs don't even see it. Any suggestions, short of big flags on the corners? BTW, it's silver with black hood stripes and tonneau cover.

If there is no note how do you know it's a SUV. God I get tired of people blaming everything on SUVs. My wife's suburban seems to be a econo crap magnet. It has been sideswiped in parking lots at least 10 times since 94 mostly by idiots trying to park, talk on the cell phone, and put on makeup at the same time. Morons in ricers weave in and out and cut us off when we're driving it all the time. I guess they own the road or we're going to slow them down because we're as big as a bus. I've had my dakota 4x4 quad cab hit twice at school by these moron teens in their ricers and I had a socker mom rearend me in a mini van last fall. My wife was rearended by a local doctors wife driving a jag a couple of years back. The UPS guy got my sons car in our drive way two summers ago and my son has a ricer. stupid people or poeple that can't drive are going to hit you. I really avoid putting my velle in places where it could get hit. That doesn't mean much, even when I park it at the very end of the parking lot I come out to find some piece of crap stang or honda right up against it. I guess they figure some of the velle's carma (sp?) will rub off on their crap.

Yes some/most SUVs are large, that is why we by them, size, room, they're safe and they can pull over a house. With the 4x4 we don't get stuck in 1/4" of snow. My wife loves the burb and when it wears out we'll buy another. She likes the fact that she is up in the air and can see where she is going. Big trucks see her and give her room usually, and back in 94 when my family was run off the road and into a concrete pier, totaling our first burb, they all lived. Ask your insurance adjuster why I get a discount on my policy because the chances of survival are 3 to 4 times higher in our SUV than in a ricer? The down side, with so many econo cars on the road I have to pay a little more collision because the econo cars are totaled if they tangle with anything that has any size to it. I'll live with the trade off.

Sorry to get on my soap box, but I get so tired of this truck and SUV bashing crap. maybe a SUV did hit you. Maybe a delivery truck did or a mini van, maybe the local transit bus, who cares, you got hit by the driver not the "SUV".

I don't know if it's SUV related or not, but I'd be more tempted to guess that when someone backs into your car and looks at what they just hit, they say to themselves, "Oh, it's just some OLD CAR!!!"

I bet I'm right.
