Howdy doodat?

It is most likely using MIDI.
Basically a computer or sequencer controlling a music synthesizer and MIDI light controllers.

Really COOL !!!

Not to steal the thread, but the music that is played is by the Trans-Sabering (Sp) Orchestra. We are going to see them Saturday at Trump Taj Mahal. I heard from someone they were good, anybody ever here of them??? If you want to PM me about it instead of posting here that would be cool too.

Touting the Trans-Siberian Orchesta should be fine, since that's the music played on the video.
For those that have never heard or seen TSO, They are awesome! You are going to see a fantastic show!! It's combination of 70's Rock concert, Orchestra, Broadway and laser show, all in one.
People of all ages seem to enjoy it. The CD's are very good holiday music if you get tired of Bing Crosby.

So, what's a MIDI? How can a shade tree mechanic pull that off? I'm game!

I would like to know as well. I always try to out-do myself every year. Of course, I am the "Griswald" house on the block.

I'm digg'n the music more each time I hear/watch it. Kind of reminds me of the rock opera style of some early bands like Kansas, Jethro Tull, Yes, etc.

Saw a comment on another board that thought it was video stop animation. The grass in the foreground seems to move in time with the music.

Either way, it took alot of work.

Thanks for pointing out the music. Trans Siberian Orchestra... really cool stuff, and so I think I may try and get to see them. They must have mutiple groups, as I can see by the tours dates that they are in more than one location at a time. Anyway, for those further interested, here is a link to their web site;

Is it the one with the house lights set to music?

If so, I wonder if they just took one picture with all lights on, and then editted it several (~60) times for each particular display used for particular notes of the music?

To actually build what it would take to syncronize the ligthing to music would require some near concert-like equipment, and a lot of different extension cords.

Either way, still pretty neat. But the music is kinda techno-christmass.

Same here, but cool none the less.

This reminds me of an episode from Home Improvement where Tim is constantly trying to out do the neighbor on the Christmas house decorations.

Talk about a "Clark W. Griswold" type of Christmas light display...this guy obviously has a LOT of time on his hands...the video isn't that great...but it's awesome!

BTW, I don't think I'd like to be his neighbor... :)

Awesome Christmas lights display! (http://www.users.qwest.net/~mnmpeterson/Videos/lights.wmv)

For those of you who, like me, put up xmas lights every year, go to this website for the most extreme xmas light performance ever. Very Cool.

Go to Putfile.com and look for Wizards of Winter Christmas Lights.

Think it was Miller Lite; Been trying to find it again, but no luck so far. Anyone else see it?

You guys were asking about MIDI.. it may have been used, but here is a link to my favorite non-Chevy store listing Lighting Controllers.http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=dj/navigation?N=100001+305312&page=1
The Behringer controller looks like it is driven from the beat of the music - cool! MIDI would involve using a computer to play the data, but these systems look more self contained. The prices are that bad since you're not buying special stage lights but using regular house lights. I just might have to rethink next year's lighting!

They are no more :(

So much chaos has been caused over a huge local Christmas display, that it's creator had to shut it down.
Carson Williams put up the elaborate light display at his Mason home and choreographed it all to music. But so many people have been flocking to see it that it's caused a traffic jam in his subdivision. Williams tells FOX19 that there was a car accident in the subdivision Tuesday and the police couldn't get to the scene because of the congestion.
So he's decided to shut it down indefinitely.

As you might expect, once the show got national media attention, the line of cars waiting to see it grew into the hundreds. County sheriff's deputies were unable to get through to the scene of an accident that occurred shortly after it appeared on national television. The creator of the show was concerned that his neighbors could not get to their homes and that emergency vehicles could not get through if necessary. Because of this concern for safety and respect for his neighbors, he closed the show.
The family asked that we pass along to you their regrets about having to close the show. They and the City of Mason wish you all the best for the holiday season."

That is a real bummer that they shut their light show down. It would almost be worth the trip to Ohio to see it. I can see why they did what they did, though. I've read where people in our area have chose not to put up their big displays due to neighbor complaints and even one case where a city made an ordinance requiring a permit to have big displays on your house.
