I replaced the windshield ahile back and when I put the molding back on, I had a 1/4" - 3/8"gap between the molding and the windshield (all the way arund). I'm wondering if I used the wrong butyl tape when re-installing the windshield. Should there be a gap at all or should the molding fit right against the windshield? Thanks.

butyl tape? I've been installing windshields for 14 years and I HATE butyl. Sounds like your windshield was set too low, or too close to the body. Was the butyl kit you used a 5/16", 3/8", or 1/4"? Definately want to use a 3/8" on earlier cars. We now use only urethane sealants shot directly onto the windshield and then the w/s is set into the car. urethane is much stronger than butyl but does take experience to use it correctly. I don't recommend installing your own windshield unless you have lots of experience. You'll have to pull that windshield to correct that ugly gap between the glass and mouldings.

ihad the same problem with mine. the replacement windshield was thinner than the original and we had to put blocks under it. then we used urethane
