: Correct Painting 67 SS Grille

Hi.
Two questions about the 67 SS Grille, headlight bezels and extensions.

1. There are 8 horizontal runs in the grille between the top and bottom grille frame. For the SS, I understand that only the middle four runs are to be left silver. In other words, the top two and bottom two horizontal runs are blacked out. Are the headlight bezels and grille extensions painted the exact same way, so that these four silver horizontal runs stay consistant throughout the entire front facia?

2. As for the headlight bezels, were the round ring sectons enclosing the headlights painted half black with an unpainted section left silver towards the front of the bezels? I have seen pictures of 67 SS's that had these rings painted near the inside and left about a 1/4" silver around the front part of the rings. Is this correct for the SS, or were these rings simply left silver?

It is amazing how many 67 SS cars, either real or cloned, have Malibu extensions and bezels. I just want to make sure that these parts are correct before I install them. Any advice will be helpful. Even a picture posted will help.

FYI, talked to a rep at Goodmark and the 67 SS Grilles re being retooled and available on Nov 30. They are suppose to be MUCH better than what is out there now. To be determined for sure!

Any help is appreciated. Thanks--Steve.

Grill painted to match bezels
Not sure where you got your info from but there is no difference between Malibu extensions/bezels and SS extensions/bezels.66 yes, 67 no

I have an ad from back in 1967. Chevrolet is showing off the new grille on the 67 Super Sport. It clearly shows that only the inside 4 runs are left unpainted (silver). If you look at the cover of the 67 sales brocure, it shows that the silver grille lines are completely straight through the headlight bezels and grille extensions. The grile extensins and bexels sold now have 8 runs acrossed each part, a perfect fit for the Malibu Grille. If you compare the picture on the brocure to 95% of the SS's out there, they are totally different, or wrong as mine is. That is why I am wanting to see an original SS that still has all of its original parts.

If you look on Goodmarks website at www.goodmarkindustries.com (http://www.goodmarkindustries.com) you will see that there is now additional listings for the bexels and extensions. One extension is for a non SS and one is for the SS Model. This is the same case for the headlight bezels. For both the headlight bezels and grille extensions, the ones for the SS are currently marked as "being re-tooled." In addition, the ones for the SS says "with Black accents, where the Malibu says "with silver accents." I called Goodmark and Tech told me that the headlight bezels and extensions are in fact different for the SS and Malibu, but they could not be specific, since they had not seen the new parts yet. Even though the newly tooled grille will be out in about 30 days, the extensions and bezels will be at least 90 before they are available.

To see the cover of the brocure and see what I'm talking about, click on this link for the SS picture.

Now, compare this to the Malibu at this link.

You can see that there is a heck of a lot more black paint across the entire front of the SS and the center grille sections are the only ones left silver, which is also the case for the extensions and bezels.

I'm curious to see if people agree with me or not. My goal is to paint these NOS parts that I have correct for the SS.

Thanks again!!!!
Steve

O.K. Here's the facts. The bezels and extentions are to be painted the same as the grille. The 4 middle runs like you said are to be left un painted. It really bugs me to see a true SS car with an incorrect grille. As for the headlight openings, they are not painted at all.

I guess I'll eat my words on that one Steve. Despite having looked at so many of these things it never really occurred they may be different! Learn something every day. Sorry to be misleading...great info!
