Im real close to starting this welding project. Sorry for the double post, this question got buried in my original arc welding post. Im laying in new full floor pans in a 66 chevelle, how much overlap is needed before welding? This may be stupid question but the molten bead lays along the overlap right? Im getting a century MIG 125 gas welder, in general how large is your area of flames so to speak when you weld? should i be concerned about the headliner?

I am doing full length floorpans now in my 66. About half inch overlap seems to work the best. Run a nice bead and seam seal after. Above all take your time!! I dont know about headliner. Mine isnt in car. Maybe tape a canvas or tarp up there?

Worry about anything flammable!!!! Keep a fire extinguisher on hand.. Also place your ground as close to the weld as possible and avoid fuel lines or tank (can be a real bummer) 1/2 inch overlap is very nice! remember if you can too weld the bottom of the pan (underneath) to make a seamless conversion! Good Luck!!!! http://www.chevelles.com/forum/biggrin.gif
