Hi, I'm new to this forum. I just purchased a set of hooker headers for a small block chevy motor. I have a 327 and noticed when removing my drivers side exhaust manifold that the alternator was mounted to the manifold. My question is will this be a problem with the hooker headers? Is there a bracket you can buy to mount the alternator? I haven't received the headers yet I ordered them through year one and they are back ordered so if someone can shed some light maybe if it's not to late I can cancel and get the right one's hopefully the one's I ordered will work. Thanks for any help. Danny Oh yeah the headers are for a 67 chevelle.

You need two pieces. The header bracket and the "F" bracket. You may be able to reuse your old F bracket. If you have an AutoZone in your local area they most likely have the part you need. If not Summit, Jegs and OPGI have the part you need. :D

You may also need an aftermarket upper alternator bracket as the lower bracket may slightly relocate the alternator.

On my 67 SB I have a MrGasket lower bracket, which is the one that bolts around the header tube. I use the factory "F" bracket that's on the bottom of the alternator. I have a chrome upper alternator bracket that has one bolt on the front of the intake manifold but does not connect to the water pump stud. I believe it is a Rocket brand, but it's been a long time since I bought it.

I had to make a bracket for the power steering pump as the upper PS bracket became positioned about 1 inch higher than stock. If you have PS, post back, I'll describe what I did.

I just relocated the alternator to the passenger head and used one of the holes and a piece of tubing as a spacer. Rod ends and threaded tubing for an adjustment. Of course, this only works if you have heads with accessory holes.

Had to revive this post. Buddy has a similiar problem with a 64 impala with alternator and air and I told him id ask you guys. Both of them bolt into the exahust manifolds and he wants to upgrade to headers. Wants to keep it as stock looking as possible. Any suggestions or Part numbers?

If your heads have the accessory bolt holes on he end, summit makes a really nice billet aluminum bracket for $69. I just put one on my 64 C10 truck with 350 and Hooker headers.

One more thing. I do like converting to the long water pump style for the accessories because the belts are shorter and just seem to work better. JMO. :D

I was looking at this post and wondered, does the car you are working on have power steering? If so does it mount right under the alternator? My 68 327 does have and when I went to headers the aftermarket brackets do not address this situation. = custom made bracket. Scott

If I recall the power steering pump was under the alternator on the drivers side with the ac on the passangers. But I only remeber there being a conflict with the alt and ac since they bolted into the manifolds ill double check tomorrow. Since was rereading the email he sent to hedman tech and didn't mention ps. Thanks again

there should be a power steering adjustment bracket that is held in place by the same bolts as the alt. bracket. the bracket they sell works fine if your 69 later car has the alt on the pass. side
