Hi all!...About 2 weeks ago I posted asking for opinions on what color Silver to paint my 72 Malibu...At the time I had it booked in at my friends shop (Maaco)...After reading several archived posts regarding quality paint jobs, I decided not to send it to this shop...With the help of Ray (65ss), I found what I believe to be a MUCH better bodyman/painter so I will be sending it off sometime this week...Thanks for everyone's help and I will be sure to post pics for y'all!

One thing that I am considering doing is not replacing the rocker molding on the car after it is painted...I am going for an SS look...Is it correct/necessary to put on a flexible rocker paint on the panels to protect from stones?...What do you guys with SS's do?...any help would be appreciated... thx.

Just paint it.
one thing you can do for rust protection, is use a self etching or an epoxy primer.
When you get a stone chip, it only goes as far as the primer.
other thean that , ther isnt much you can doI wouldnt use stone guard, it just wouldnt look right.

The previous owner of my car had put that stone guard stuff on the rockers. The good part? It was freakin' indestructable. The bad part? It was freakin' indestructable AND it looked kinda freaky. If you ever want it off, count on a LOT of work.

Bear in mind that the car was black which tends to show that funky orange peel effect that it has. Draw your own conclusion and use your best judgement, but I don't want it on my rockers again. Maybe for a work truck...
