I was wondering if anybody set up their timing the way I read my timing off the balancer. Instead of reading of the timing tap, I read off the balancer. Here is what I do.
The 2pc timing tab set to 0*, my balancer at idle reads 36* while at 0* timing tab. I rev the engine I have 18* at 3000 rpm to get my initial timing reading. this is done with the vacuum advance unplug and the carb vacuum outlet plug.

Yes, I always go off "0" on the tab and use a dial back light.
