Is there any way to convert a performer 600cfm carb for marine use, im sure it can be used as is, but there are some changes that *should* be made to make it pass the coast gaurds specs. We have a boat with a vortec v6 that will be getting a new lower unit, and what better time is it to pop a cam and 4-bbl carb/intake on that sucker :P

As far as I know the only difference is the float bowl vents. On marine carbs the bowl vents are longer and bent in a half circle back to the venturi. In case of a backfire or stuck float the fuel would dump down the carb and not spill out and saturate the filter. This could be done on any carb just by using vaccum hose tie wired to the filter hold down stud.

I would think there would be retro fit parts available from Edelbrock to change your carb over. Call edelbrock monday morning and ask them..Tech line 1 800 416 8628 7 am to 5 pm Pacific time

Seems like the marine carbs also had some sort of seals on the throttle shafts too. The purpose of the J bend overflow tubes and the shaft seals was to keep all the fuel inside the carb in case it flooded. Fuel/vapor in a closed bilge can explode. I wouldnt worry too much about the shaft seals if you have an open engine compartment. Also, I think the manufacturers are required to run hard line from the pump to the carb. I run braided on mine and have never been cited for it, and man, do the lake cops look for stuff to cite you for when they pull you over on our lakes.

Marine carbs, distributors, etc. are anodized. This is due to the greatly corrosive salt water, so if you are in fresh water I guess it may not be an issue.
