Bought a new daily driver, a 2000 Silverado. I don't like the looks of the coolant. I understand that GM autos have a special coolant that can be problimatic. Are there any pitfalls in flushing the system and using another type, like the green stuff I'm used to?
Thanks!

Hey James, we have talked about Dex-cool on this site a few times. My experience, I have it in my 96 Tahoe and flushed it at about 95,000 miles and the cooling system never looked better on any previous vehicle I owned. One of the vehicles that it was problematic on was the S-10s that somehow got air in the cooling system and the Dex coagulates and turns into a nasty ooze. You can switch to the green stuff after flushing, make sure you flush it real good.
You might want to do a search on the previous discussions.

The red stuff works good as long as you dont get air in the system, as Leo stated. I have 120K on an 02 monte and got air in the lines, and had to replace the lower intake manifold gasket.
I believe Prestone makes a green coolant that is dex-cool compatible.
